Placed in the state of Pahang’s capital city; Kuantan; the mobile fertiliser machine processes 25 kilograms of food scraps a day in Ramadan.
“The main objective is to ensure that the waste is not sent to landfills,” state director of Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation; Sharudin Hamid; said. “This has had a significant impact on us, as people are becoming more aware of environmental conservation, especially in terms of food waste reduction.”
The scraps are mixed with rice husks and sawdust for 48 hours in the machine, eventually producing a brown-coloured waste that is then packaged and distributed to farmers. This creates a natural recycling initiative that local farmers are enthusiastic about being a part of.
