At the beginning of January, Transnet Port Terminals stated that significant progress was made reducing the backlog of vessels at the Port of Durban.
Despite inclement weather with winds reaching up to 100km/h and severe swells interrupting the operations across South African container terminals at the end of December, the Durban backlog had been reduced.
Additionally, the Durban Container Terminal Pier 2 is steadily recovering backlog woes from last year.
“We are not out of the woods, but we have exceeded our set targets of clearing the vessel backlog,” Earle Peters; Managing Executive at the Durban Terminals; said in a statement on Wednesday.
“We are pursuing an aggressive recovery plan and our main focus is to relieve the pressure on our customers who rely on our service and look to us to provide much-needed value.”
