The City has stated that the project to repair and restore broken CCTV cameras around Durban has begun.
The initiative was announced in September, and seeks to repair the power and fibre cables – which the cameras operate on – that had been washed away during the April 2022 floods. The cost of the project is expected to be R100 million.
The safety of tourists has recently come to attention following a pair of elderly visitors from the United States being robbed in Durban’s city centre. Due to this rising concern, the City has also increased the deployment of visible law enforcement officers to crime hotspots.
