In the wake of the devastating eight-day water outage that hit Durban North and uMhlanga areas last week, the eThekwini Municipality is taking ‘proactive’ measures to monitor reservoir water levels.
On Monday, Durban mayor Mxolisi Kaunda issued an apology to the residents that were affected at a press briefing.
“As a proactive and preventative measure, our teams will be installing pressure gauges at strategic points on the bulk aqueduct pipeline and will link this up with our telemetry system where we monitor reservoir levels. We have also approached the South African Police Service to speed up the investigation on the criminal case of sabotage the municipality has opened,” the mayor said.
The City has since restored water to the areas affected, and though a case of sabotage was opened in the wake of last week’s major disruptions, no arrests have been made as of yet.
