Salima Khan - born in 1931 - has dreamed of being able to read and write all her life.
Just six months ago and at the age of 92, Khan has finally pursued this dream. She has begun studying alongside children eight decades younger than her, and though teachers at the school were hesitant to teach her, they were moved by Khan's "passion" to study.
"We didn't have the heart to refuse her," said Pratima Sharma, the school headmistress.
Khan's story went viral on social media when a video of her counting from one to 100 began circulating.
"My grandchildren used to trick me into giving them extra money as I couldn't count currency notes," Khan said. "Those days are gone."
Since starting school, Khan has inspired 25 other women from her village to start literacy classes, Sharma added.
