In order to address the ongoing energy and water supply challenges eThekwini is facing, the City has recently unveiled renewable energy and water reuse demonstration pilot plants to explore sustainable solutions.
The reusable water demonstration plant was installed at KwaMashu Wastewater Treatment Works, and the micro-hydroelectric turbine integration system at uMhlanga Rocks Reservoir 2. In order to be proactive in preventing a serious situation in the future with growing water demands, these plants will help recover untapped energy from its water distribution networks.
“As the leadership of eThekwini Municipality, we are delighted to get the opportunity, not only to showcase the city, but to play a leading role in the advancement of water reuse technology,” Councillor Thembo Ntuli stated.
