Middle East countries send aid to Morocco and Libya victims

Following the devastating earthquake that hit Morocco last week Friday, as well as the damaging floods that occurred in Libya on Sunday, Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Iraq, Kuwait, Tunisia, and Turkiye have offered aid and assistance to affected victims.

As of right now, over 2,800 people have been in killed in Morocco, and over 300,000 are affected by the aftermath of the 6.8-magnitude earthquake. In Libya, the floods have killed over 5,000 people, and thousands are still missing.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has flown aid to Morocco, and on Tuesday expressed solidarity with “Libya and its brotherly people, and the victims of the floods.”

The president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, declared a three-day period of mourning, as well as ordered military personnel and relief teams to provide aid, rescue equipment, and shelter camps for those affected in Libya and Morocco.

President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, sent urgent relief and search and rescue teams to Libya, along with planes carrying food, relief, and medical supplies. Kuwait and Jordan have also sent planes loaded with food and other relief supplies.
