The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) has reported that at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, over 30 million worshippers have benefitted from volunteering services.
Saudi Arabia’s Social, Volunteering and Humanitarian Department released figures that show volunteers from 35 entities – across 17 fields – exerted a total of 1.2 million hours in serving an estimate of 30 million worshippers from August 2021 until the first quarter of 2022.
These volunteer services include the serving of breakfast to 6.9 million worshippers, the distribution of 2.3 million Zamzam water bottles, and the provision of 366,500 umbrellas.
The SPA reported that over the past eight months, 7,000 volunteers served pilgrims in the Prophet’s Mosque in Al Madina.
The 350,000 hours of volunteer work include the assisting of elderly pilgrims and people with disabilities, providing first aid, directing pedestrian flow, and guiding pilgrims to locations in several languages.
