More than 7000 flood victims remain in temporary shelters

DURBAN: The eThekwini Municipality has confirmed that it is continuing to house more than 7 000 people displaced by the recent floods in different community halls and centres around Durban.

Most of these individuals and families lost everything when heavy rains devastated KwaZulu-Natal last month.

In partnership with the provincial government and other organisations, provision of healthcare and psychological assistance is being provided at the temporary shelters.

The city has thanked all stakeholders for their donations and support during these trying times. The money and other support has helped all those affected.

With the assistance of volunteers, NGOs, sponsors, and various stakeholders, people housed in community halls and centres have received warm meals and other necessities like toiletries, nappies, clothes, detergents, food, blankets, sponges and school uniforms.
