The Phoenix Enviro-Forum (PEF) recently held a workshop with key stakeholders in a bid to try and clean up their environment.
Community activists and leaders all attended the meeting to identify issues in their area, with a view on developing sustainable solutions for residents.
Among the issues raised were illegal dumping, burning of trash, vagrants and non-operational streetlights.
Proposed solutions included educational campaigns, a bi-monthly community clean-ups, door-to-door pamphlet distribution and fencing of problem areas to curb illegal dumping.
Following the workshop, a site visit was conducted to Garbgreen Place in Greenbury where residents were advised to remove health and safety hazards within seven days or risk facing a hefty fine.
“We have to make an effort to live in a cleaner and more sustainable environment,” one community activist said. “If we keep leaving things for the next person, change will never take place.”
