Worth R232.6 million, the new infrastructure aims to strengthen drainage and flood capacity in Prospecton. This location is one of the city’s key manufacturing, industrial, and logistics hubs. Sustaining thousands of jobs, this area is a critical link in local and international supply chains, which is why City Manager, Musa Mbhele, stated it is essential to ensure the area’s sustainability in the long term.
Mbhele said, “These projects demonstrate the value of targeted, evidence-based infrastructure investment. As the automotive industry gathers in Durban this week, the completion of these works reflects the city’s commitment to supporting one of South Africa’s most important manufacturing hubs, while also safeguarding surrounding communities and transport networks.”
Additionally, the major project also yielded a 1.3-kilometre walkway for pedestrians, and two dedicated taxi laybys.
