This rock is included in over 1,774 archeological discoveries made by the team. On it, are two lines: “May Allah be the guardian of Umar ibn al-Khattab in this world and the Hereafter” and “There is no god but Allah.”
Of the thousands of historic pieces found, 1,259 were rock art drawings, 461 were Islamic inscriptions, and 34 were inscriptions in the Thamudic language, amongst other discoveries such as wells, palaces, stone structures, and milestone caravan routes.
This rock inscription is an incredible discovery, as the name of Umar (RA) preserved in Hijazi script on the rock shows it is among the earliest physical records from that particular period of Islamic history.
