This will be the holy city’s first airport in history, and will serve residents of Makkah alongside millions of Umrah and Hajj pilgrims. The Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC) has ensured that it will not affect the nearby King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah negatively. Rather, the new airport is expected to cut down on time, cost, and logistics in comparison to that of the King Abdulaziz International Airport’s.
The airport will not be located within the limits of the Haram. As announced by the Emir of Mecca, it will be in the Faisaliah City project, which is located between Mecca and Jeddah.
This project is in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals, and is still in the very early stages of approval.
