This includes 77 Capitec Bank branches, 30 Standard Bank branches, and the first three First National Bank branches are now live in South Africa, providing Smart ID replacement services to communities at large. The Home Affairs offices offering Smart ID services amount to 248, but will be bolstered by the additional 110 bank branches, expanding reach and accessibility by 44% across the country, cutting down on travel times and long queues.
Home Affairs Minister, Dr Leon Schreiber, said, “In addition to what we have already delivered, over the coming weeks, first time Smart ID applications, Passport applications, secure courier delivery of IDs and Passports, as well as applications submitted via digital banking apps will all become reality through these reforms.”
