On Tuesday, 3 October 2023, Qatar-based scholar and esteemed guest Dr. Recep Şentürk visited the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre.
At the Global Alliance of Islamic Schools Retreat 3-day conference in Durban, guest of honour Dr. Recep Şentürk presented valuable insights to the Ulama attendees who were invited for discussions over lunch.
These engaging topics included educational importance in the Islamic community, indicating that education is not just a choice, but a communal obligation. He also touched on Dawah (Islamic outreach and propagation), stressing the importance of spreading the message of Islam to a wider audience and engaging in dialogue with those of different faiths to correct the narrative of Islam.
Additionally, Dr. Şentürk discussed the importance of Aqeedah (belief system). He spoke at great lengths on theology and how it provides a solid foundation to counter false ideologies prevalent in society. His insights encouraged attendees to rely on the knowledge derived from classical Islamic scholars in order to address contemporary challenges more efficiently.
Lastly, Dr. Şentürk shared his personal journey of attaining a PhD from Columbia University’s Department of Sociology in the hopes of inspiring and motivating the youth to pursue higher education to benefit the Muslim community.
The event fostered a relaxed and interactive atmosphere for the participants. Dr. Şentürk’s insights likely left a lasting impression on the Ulama, which encouraged them to be more proactive in education, Dawah efforts, and the study of Islamic theology.
Dr. Şentürk shared his personal journey of attaining a PhD from Columbia University’s Department of Sociology in the hopes of inspiring and motivating the youth to pursue higher education to benefit the Muslim community.He also shared his experiences of his studies of Darse Nizami with the traditional Turkish Ulama and his lengthy studies under Moulana Dr Mustafa Azami (Rahimahullah). Dr. Şentürk stressed uppon the importance of retaining the original elements of Darse Nizami and to adapt ourselves to it. He also emphasised the importance of Tarbiyah and Tasawwuf and deriving benefit from the writings of Hazrat Mujaddid Saheb and Shah Waliyullah (Rahimahumullah).
