The programme opened with a short Qirat recitation from Surah Kahf, aptly pertinent to the guidance of youth. A short and exciting Q&A with attendees took place, wherein small prizes were given out to encourage and uplift them in preparation for the event.
Examples of youth were then explained by both Western and Islamic standards and definitions. The early lives of several Sahaba were given as examples, whose incredible stories of youth served to inspire.
Modern examples were also provided, such as the noble efforts of youth protesting and finding solutions to aid the situation in Gaza, further stimulating and encouraging the young Muslimahs to be firm in their beliefs. They were encouraged to not wait to grow older to plant seeds of good, and to ponder small ways to make a difference in their communities, stimulating discussion between attendees.
Empowering Hadith were also shared to inspire good acts and deeds that even at young ages, can be enacted.
This was followed by an exciting craft session, in which Muslimahs put together their own “vision board”. Working in groups, each attendee was provided a blank board of their own and craft material, encouraged to brainstorm worldly and Islamic goals, as well as to write a reminder to their future selves. Various creative materials such as markers and stickers were available for them to create unique creative and stimulating pieces.
Refreshments were provided thereafter, giving the girls time to meet and speak with each other as well as the friendly DOU team.
Several attendees shared the view that the event was enjoyable and stimulating.
“Everything was nice,” remarked one. “My favourite part was the vision board.”
