On Saturday afternoon, 15 March, the Daughters of the Ummah youth group hosted the event ‘Fikr for Zikr: The Ultimate Conversation’ at Al-Falaah College, Springfield, Durban. This programme marked the third Zikr event held by the team since its inception.
With over 70 Muslimahs aged between 9-15 in attendance, the event opened with a beautiful Qirat recitation. This was followed by a short quiz that helped energise the attendees, in which small prizes were handed out for their participation.
An explanation of Surah Al-Fathihah was explained, delving into its importance for the believer. Attendees were encouraged to read it abundantly in order to gain closeness to Allah, as it is the most comprehensive Dua to guide oneself to the straight path. A focus was placed on the importance of Salaah, encouraging the girls to carry this act of prayer out with concentration and sincerity to reap its full rewards.
Tips were thereafter provided on ways to make Dua, such as starting every Dua with Durood and praise of Allah, showing need for Allah, and repetition in Dua, amongst few others.
A Katam of the Quran was then initiated, where attendees alternated engaging with small segments of the Quran and creating an “inspiration jar”.
Provided with a jar each alongside several creative craft materials, attendees were tasked with placing colourful Ayahs from the Quran of their choice inside it, and then beautifying it with colourful beads of their choice. This jar would serve them as an inspiration and motivation to read the Quran often, making for an intuitive, comprehensive, and enjoyable craft activity.
The event closed with an address by the Amir of the Darul Ihsan Humanitarian Centre - Mufti Zubair Bayat - who answered relevant questions written and provided by the attendees; the answers of which inspired closeness to Allah and a strengthening of one’s Deen.
A Dua followed to close the Katam, blessing the congregation.
