The demise of Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA)

Q: What was the date of the demise of Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiyallahu Anhu)?

A: Demise

Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiyallahu Anhu) passed away on 22 Jumadath Thaani 13 A.H. after an illness for about two weeks. Some say this was as a result of poisoning. Like Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) he passed away on a Monday at the age of 63.
Regarding his last illness there is difference of opinion.

According to Zuhri, Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiyallahu Anhu) was given some poisoned food which he and Harith ibn Kalda (Radiyallahu Anhu) ate partly. Both remained ill for a year and passed away on the same day.

Another version states, “The beginning of the sickness of Hazrat Abu Bakr (Radiyallahu Anhu) was that he had a bath on a very cold day and suffered a fever for 15 days.” He passed away in the evening between Maghrib and Esha.

The duration of his Khilafat was 2 years, 3 months and 9 days.

He bequeathed that his wife Hazrat Asma bint Umais (Radiyallahu Anha) should give him ghusl and she did so.
His Janazah Salah was performed by Hazrat Umar (Radiyallahu Anhu) and he was buried next to Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). His son Hazrat Abdur Rahman, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Uthman and Hazrat Talha (Radiyallahu Anhum) went down into his grave to bury him.

Was Salaam
