Last week Thursday, the National Treasury approved of the Municipal Disaster Grant worth R1.5 billion. According to eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda, construction has begun since to repair infrastructure damaged by the April 2022 floods.
“This latest development, particularly in relation to the storm disaster grant, will help us speed up the repairs of our roads and stormwater infrastructure which was severely damaged during the floods,” the mayor said.
The mayor also confirmed that the repairs will positively impact local employment, creating opportunities for local contractors to participate in the projects as well.
