Gaza hospitals suffer under recent attacks

On Friday, at least three hospitals in Gaza were subject to either direct or close-proximity air strike attacks, further endangering the immensely pressured health system.

“The Israeli occupation launched simultaneous strikes on a number of hospitals during the past hours,” Ashraf Al-Qidra; Gaza Ministry of Health spokesman; said to Al-Jazeera.

According to the Gaza health ministry, 18 out of 35 hospitals in the city alongside 40 other health service centres were decommissioned either due to damage from lack of fuel or bombardment.

Human Rights Watch said on X (Twitter), “With ongoing strikes and fighting nearby (Al Shifa hospital), we are gravely concerned about the well-being of thousands of civilians there, many children among them, seeking medical care and shelter.”

Since 7 October 2023 until now, over 10 000 civilian lives - 4 100 of them being children - have been lost, 26 000 injured, and over 50 000 homes have been destroyed, leaving over a million people in the Gaza Strip displaced. A number of 66 mosques, 3 churches, 149 schools, and 45 hospitals have also been damaged, leaving either these places abandoned, or functioning through severe attrition.
