Durban: R1b dedicated to water infrastructure repairs

Following the water outage in Durban North and Umhlanga that lasted over a week, City officials have stated that over R1b has been budgeted to improve water infrastructure.

Nkosenhle Madlala; Chairperson of Governance and Human Capital Committee Councilor; said, "The municipality has budgeted R1 billion for water services for the 2023/24 financial year, part of this budget will be spent on the southern aqueduct project which will address water supply challenges in Umlazi and other surrounding areas."

An amount of R2.1 billion will also be spent on water loss interventions. This includes the maintenance of facilities, and ensures that the City is capable of an acceptable standard of service delivery.

"Due to increase in water demand, projects to improve water supply will continue."
